Historic Fashion Reconstruction

December 2023 - March 2024

In this second-year project, I had the opportunity to delve into the fashion and dressing habits of past centuries. Each student was tasked with researching and recreating a historically accurate corset from their chosen time period.

I focused on the period between 1890-1900 and recreated the iconic "Pretty Housemaid" corset, a best-seller of its time. The corset is crafted from light blue drill fabric and lined with white drill fabric, ensuring both durability and longevity for the working women of the period. Additionally, I used a traditional spoon busk, staying true to the authentic design of the era.

To complement the corset, I also created a chemise to be worn underneath, enhancing the historical accuracy and overall look of the ensemble.

The construction process included detailed toile fittings to guarantee a perfect fit, along with cording and flossing techniques that follow the traditional corset-making principles of the time.

This project allowed me to blend historical research with hands-on craftsmanship, and I am proud of the final result.
